Incessant rains have caused floods and landslides in Assam, affecting nearly 2 lakh people in 20 districts in the state.
Roads and railways have been cut off in Assam due to floods combined with heavy rains and landslides. A report by PTI said about 4 lakh people in 26 districts of the state were severely affected by the floods.
A deadly landslide caused by the ongoing flooding killed three people in the Havelong revenue district, while two flood-related deaths occurred in the Cachar district.
Overall around 4.03 lakh people were affected by the floods and landslides.
Disaster management officials said Cachar and Hogai districts were the hardest hit.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Assam in the next three days.
In the past 24 hours, bridges have broken in 16 places in different regions.
Roads, bridges and homes have been completed or partially damaged in many areas.
The Dima Hasao district is completely cut off due to landslides and the collapse of communication channels, a government bulletin said, adding that all roads and railways to Haflong have been closed since May 15.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Government Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Fire and Emergency Services have been deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas
With the help of the Air Force and other agencies, about 2,800 passengers were evacuated from two trains on Monday after two locomotives got stuck on tracks due to landslides and waterlogging.
Around 55 relief camps were opened in provinces, where 32,959 people were accommodated. Another 12 relief distribution centers are operating in other regions as well.
